The Internet of Things Association Joins the Industrial Internet Association

Moscow, Russia (26 Apil 2018) - The Internet of Things Association (IOTAS), a flagship Russian multi-stakeholder-based IoT-driven non-profit organization, has joined the Industrial Internet Consortium® (IIC™), the world’s leading organization transforming business and society by accelerating the adoption of the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT).

IOTAS operates as a platform for a region-wide expert dialogue on adoption of IoT/IIoT technology in Russia and the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS), bringing together experts from various industries keen to adopt the digital agenda, such as telecom, manufacturing, agriculture, transportation, energy, and utilities.

The Association was founded in 2016 by the Moscow-based Internet Initiatives Development Foundation and the Bauman Moscow State Technical University. It was founded to ensure a coordinated approach to the promotion of IoT/IIoT and to build a solid foundation to synchronize practical efforts, such as the adoption of standards, improving regulations, and to collect best practices for its members. The Association’s mission also lies in channeling its members’ expertise to the market, thereby benefiting traditional industries, government and academia. IOTAS vigorously works in the area of awareness raising and education by providing expertise to the university community. The Association is also involved in a number of large-scale nationwide projects, such as Russia’s digital economy, smart cities and digital farming.

As a non-profit NGO, IOTAS operates by virtue of voluntary participation-based standing or ad-hoc working groups, such as “Smart City,” “LoRaWAN(c),” “legislation and Regulations,” and “Wide and Narrow Band lpwan.”. With an extensive record of building and operating industrial platforms under its belt, IOTAS sees its membership in IIC as a vehicle for sharing best practices and expertise with the international members of the IIC.

“The internet of things and the industrial internet of things have expanded worldwide rapidly, like the adoption of the internet at its onset. IoT and IIoT have expanded  fast, changed things, and both are truly international phenomena. We see the partnership with the IIC and its members as a great opportunity for us to propel their further growth and make sure people and devices are on the same page, whether in terms of language or protocols,” says Andrei Kolesnikov, director of IOTAS.

“We’re pleased to welcome IOTAS as a member of the IIC,” said Dr. Richard Soley, Executive Director, Industrial Internet Consortium. “Our global membership represents the thought leaders accelerating the adoption of the IIoT and we’re happy IOTAS has chosen IIC to enhance its collaboration with industry partners.”
